THE 1st CROSAT SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE TO BE HELD ON 7th – 8th NOVEMBER 2024
May 17, 2024The Crop Science Association (CROSAT) exists to bring together crop scientists and other specialists in related sectors to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas about the science of crop production and processing to ensure food security in Tanzania.
CROSAT held its Annual General Meeting on December 2023 at Dodoma – Tanzania. Among the resolutions of the 2022 AGM was to finalize the drafted constitution to meet the needs of the present and future situation. During this meeting, the members witnessed a remarkable moment as the constitution was launched by Hon. Dr. Hussein M. Omar, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture on behalf of Hon. Hussein M. Bashe (MP), Minister for Agriculture who was the Guest of Honor.

During the Launching, the guest of Honor stated that the ministry believes that CROSAT will make use of the knowledge and experience of CROSAT members who are coming from different institutions including Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), Agricultural Seed Agency (ASA) together with other institutes that overseers seeds, fertilizer, and Pesticides matter i.e. TOSCI, TFRA and TPHPA without forgetting the farmers and other stakeholder engaging in Crop Sciences.

He also added that the government through the Ministry of Agriculture intends to fully achieve implementation in the areas of Strategic Agricultural research, Production of Quality seeds, availability of fertilizers, strengthening of extension services, construction of irrigation infrastructure and conservation of crops, and the strengthening of access to produce markets
He concluded by stating that the ministry will continue to work closely with CROSAT because its objectives will contribute to improving Agriculture in the country, particularly, the crop production sector.
CROSAT will continue to work with like-minded stakeholders toward the improvement of the crop production sector and ultimately Economic growth.
