CROSAT to Host 1st Scientific Conference and 3rd AGM
November 4, 2024The Crop Science Association of Tanzania (CROSAT) actively participated in the recent International Scientific Conference organized by the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) from July 17th to 19th, 2024. The conference theme, “Tropical Horizons: Advancing Sustainability in Agriculture, Environment, and Technology,” provided a timely platform for CROSAT to engage with stakeholders and showcase its ongoing efforts.
CROSAT Highlights and Presentations
Ms. Jenipher Tairo, Assistant Publicity Secretary for CROSAT, delivered a presentation that underscored the association’s vital work in the Tanzanian agricultural sector. Ms. Tairo not only extended an invitation to attendees to join CROSAT and collaborate on future endeavors, but also announced the upcoming CROSAT Scientific Conference scheduled for November 2024 in Dodoma, Tanzania.
CROSAT members actively contributed to the conference through presentations on critical agricultural topics. Dr. Kadeghe Fue from SUA presented his research on “Prediction of Maize Yield in Tanzania by District Level Using Long Short-Term Memory Models.” This innovative approach focuses on empowering the government and farmers with the ability to predict crop yields, thereby facilitating informed planning for the agricultural year.
Mr. George Karwani, representing the Tanzania Agriculture Research Institute (TARI), shared valuable insights on the development of improved crop varieties. These presentations, along with the participation of Dr. Deogracious Protas from COSTECH (CROSAT publicity secretary), Dr. Nyambilila Amour (SUA), and Mr. Joseph Kalonga (UDSM), solidified CROSAT’s presence in advancing Tanzanian agriculture.
A Platform for Growth and Collaboration
The NM-AIST International Scientific Conference proved to be a resounding success for CROSAT. The association successfully raised its profile among conference participants, attracting new members and generating interest in the upcoming CROSAT Scientific Conference. This engagement with stakeholders fosters collaboration and paves the way for continued progress in Tanzanian agriculture.
