November 7, 2024The Crop Science Association of Tanzania (CROSAT) will host its inaugural scientific conference and 3rd Annual General Meeting from November 6th to 7th, 2024, at Morena Hotel, Dodoma, Tanzania. The event will provide insightful discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals.
Keynote Speakers
The scientific conference will include a distinguished panel of keynote speakers who will delve into various critical topics related to crop science and biotechnology.
- Prof. Maulid W. Mwatawala (Tanzania): A renowned crop protection specialist, Prof. Mwatawala will explore the principles and practices of agroecology, a sustainable approach to agriculture that integrates traditional and modern techniques.
- Prof. Marc Heijde (Belgium): A leading plant molecular biologist, Prof. Heijde will discuss the crucial role of biotechnology in crop improvement and provide a global overview of advancements in plant biotechnology sciences.
- Prof. Joseph Ndunguru (Tanzania): An expert in plant health and pesticides, Prof. Ndunguru will explore the challenges posed by climate change and discuss strategies for developing climate-smart cropping systems.
- Mr. Mdili Katemani (Tanzania): A professional in plant health compliance, Mr. Katemani will delve into the evolution of crop pest and crop protection technologies, from past practices to current trends and future prospects.
- Dr. Sophia Kashenge (Tanzania): An expert in technology transfer and partnerships, Dr. Kashenge will discuss the critical role of crop value chains and seed systems in agricultural development.
- Mr. Thomas Chali (Tanzania): A key figure in Tanzania’s environmental policy landscape, Mr. Chali will address the importance of policy in promoting sustainable plant biotechnology and developing frameworks for equitable access to biotechnological solutions.
- Dr. Anne Muia (Kenya): A seasoned expert in biosafety, Dr. Muia will shed light on the regulatory and policy frameworks governing biotechnological crops, as well as the global landscape of genetically modified and genetically engineered crops.
The 3rd Annual General Meeting
In addition to the scientific conference, CROSAT will hold its 3rd Annual General Meeting. During the AGM, CROSAT President, Prof. Kallunde Sibuga, will deliver a comprehensive address on the association’s progress and future plans. Members will have the opportunity to discuss strategies for advancing crop science and promoting sustainable agriculture in Tanzania.
